Liberal Democrat councillor Andrew George has produced an excellent report highlighting the disparity between the money spent in Cornwall on affordable housing and the tax breaks enjoyed by second home owners.
Mr George estimates that Conservative governments have handed more than £385 million in tax subsidies to second home owners in Cornwall in the last decade. If that sum had been granted for the delivery of first homes for locals instead there would be virtually no housing need.
